Balasore: Two young men sustained serious injuries in a late-night shooting in Balasore town of Odisha late on Monday night. The incident took place at Arada Bazaar. The victims, identified as Manoj Sahu and Kartik Prasad, suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed by locals to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for immediate treatment. While one of the injured sustained a bullet wound to the back, the other was shot in the hand. Due to the severity of their injuries, both were later referred to Cuttack for advanced medical care.

Suspected feud behind the shooting

As per reports, the youths are residents of the Nua Bazaar area in Balasore, which comes under the jurisdiction of Sahadevkhunta police limits. Initial findings suggest that the incident may be linked to previous enmity. Police teams reached the scene shortly after receiving the alert and have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances.

Sources also indicated that a shotgun—often used for hunting—may have been used in the attack. However, authorities have yet to officially confirm details about the weapon or identify those responsible. The incident highlights continuing concerns about the law and order situation in Odisha, particularly in smaller urban pockets where personal disputes can escalate into serious violence. The apparent use of a firearm also raises concerns about access to weapons and enforcement of arms regulations.
