Bhubaneswar: Addressing the 15th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) at its Jatni campus, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Thursday underscored the pivotal role of science in nation-building.

Encouraging students to nurture curiosity, he urged them to adopt environmentally sustainable technologies and apply their knowledge for the betterment of society. He emphasised scientific expertise is no longer optional but a fundamental driver of progress.

Referring to the graduating students, the Vice President remarked although eminent scientist Homi J. Bhabha is no longer among us, he could see “hundreds of Homi Bhabhas” seated before him.

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati also addressed the gathering, stating a convocation is not merely about awarding degrees but marks the beginning of a greater responsibility towards society. He stressed science plays a crucial role in addressing global challenges.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the graduating youth are key contributors to science, research, and nation-building, and urged them to use their knowledge for societal development.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the increasing participation of women in STEM education, noting that it has reached around 40 percent at NISER Bhubaneswar.

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh said the convocation is not just about distributing certificates but about passing on a legacy of service and excellence to the next generation.

The ceremony was attended by Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy Ajit Kumar Mohanty, NISER Director Prof. Hirendra Nath Ghosh, and members of the Board of Governors.
