Rayagada: A 54-year-old woman died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection at a medicine store in Odisha's Rayagada district, prompting her family to file a police complaint.

The deceased has been identified as Bidia Kumar (54), a resident of Getipada village under Chandili police station limits.

According to family members, Bidia had been suffering from fever and cold for the past few days. As her condition did not improve despite taking medicines, she visited a medicine store in the Chandili area on Thursday.

It is alleged that a staff member of the medicine store, identified as A.K. Bhatra, administered an injection to her. Shortly after receiving the injection, she reportedly developed severe adverse reactions and her condition deteriorated rapidly.

She was immediately rushed to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, she died on the way to hospital, sources said.  

Following the incident, the deceased's family lodged a complaint with Chandili police, alleging administering a wrong injection.

Based on the complaint, police detained the medicine store employee who allegedly administered the injection. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the woman's death and determine whether there was any medical negligence.

Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
