Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a woman and her granddaughter drowned in a river in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today.

The deceased have been identified as Droupadi Behera and her granddaughter Laxmi Priya Behera of Gopabindha village under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak.

Droupadi and her granddaughter drowned while they were crossing the Salandi river near their village in the afternoon.

As per reports, Droupadi was swept away by strong currents after she slipped her feet while crossing the river. Laxmi reportedly made attempt to save her grandmother.

But, both Droupadi and Laxmi drowned in the river. The villagers rescued the duo and rushed them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Tihidi. However, they were declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
