Baleshwar: A 65-year-old woman and her 18-year-old grandson were killed after a wall collapsed in Kapasuda village under Netua panchayat in Jaleswar block of Odisha's Baleshwar district on Sunday night. An 18-year-old girl was critically injured in the incident.
According to reports, Radhika, the elderly woman, was sleeping outside her house along with her grandchildren, Jyoti Prakash Swain and Smrutirekha Swain. At around 9.30 pm, a wall of a neighbouring house collapsed onto the asbestos-roofed portion of Radhika's house.
Radhika and Jyoti Prakash died after being trapped under the debris, while Smrutirekha sustained serious injuries.
Radhika's son Uttam, 31, daughter-in-law Debirani, 25, and two other grandchildren, five-year-old Ananya and two-month-old Aroadhya, were also inside the house at the time. Uttam and the infant sustained injuries in the incident.
Household belongings were also buried and destroyed under the collapsed wall.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after the tragic incident.
