Bhograi (Baleshwar): Tension prevailed outside a branch of the Punjab National Bank at Chandaneswar in Bhograi block in Odisha's Baleshwar district after a woman borrower allegedly threatened to consume poison, accusing the bank manager of misappropriating her loan subsidy and withholding funds.

The woman, a resident of Jayrampur area under Bhograi block, alleged that she had availed a loan of approximately Rs 7.56 lakh from the bank. However, she claimed that only Rs 4.56 lakh was disbursed to her, while the remaining Rs 3 lakh was withheld.

According to her allegations, the bank later obtained four blank cheques from her and allegedly withdrew the Rs 2.87 lakh subsidy credited to her loan account, along with the remaining Rs 3 lakh that had been withheld.

Demanding the return of her money, the woman arrived at the bank carrying a bottle of poison. She allegedly prevented the bank manager from leaving the premises and warned that she would end her life if the money was not returned.

The dramatic protest triggered tension outside the bank, drawing the attention of local residents and customers.

The woman has levelled serious allegations of financial irregularities against the bank management. However, the bank has not yet issued any official statement responding to the claims.

Authorities are expected to examine the allegations and ascertain the facts behind the dispute. Further investigation is underway.
