Bhubaneswar: The police in Odisha’s Keonjhar district have arrested a youth on charges of making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on social media.
The accused has been identified as Sushant Das (28) of Ichhapur village of Kalinga panchayat under Nandipada police limits in Keonjhar.
As per reports, Sushant had posted indecent remarks against the Chief Minister in his Facebook account ‘Das Kumar Das Sushant’ a few days ago.
Activists of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had condemned the social media posts and urged the police to initiate appropriate action in this regard.
One Kanhei Charan Das of Kalinga panchayat had lodged a complaint against Sushant with Nandipada police on July 31. He had also produced Sushant’s social media posts before the cops.
On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case against the youth under Sections 351(2), 296, 356(2), 353(2) and 238 of the BNS and Section 67 of the IT Act and launched a probe.
“The accused has been arrested. Further investigation into the matter is underway,” said Nandipada police IIC Dharmendra Shanti.
