Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression and cross Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

The system may trigger heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha.

"The well marked low-pressure area over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal has moved northwestwards and now lies over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height," the IMD said in a bulletin.

"It is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over same region during the next 12-hours. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move northwestwards and cross Odisha coast during the subsequent 24 hours," the agency added.
