Bhubaneswar: A fresh low-pressure area has formed over the south Andaman Sea and its neighbourhood and is likely to intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its morning bulletin today.
The weather system developed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. According to the IMD, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a well-marked low pressure area over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands within the next 24 hours.
It is then likely to further intensify into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea during the subsequent 24 hours.
The fresh weather system over the Andaman Sea is being closely watched by the IMD as it is expected to intensify over the next two days. Its subsequent movement and development will determine its potential impact.
Meanwhile, the remnants of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Arnab' have weakened further after moving inland. The deep depression weakened into a depression by 5.30 am on Thursday and was centred over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south Odisha, near Jagdalpur.
The IMD said the system is likely to continue moving nearly northwards and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by Thursday evening.
