Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to regain momentum over the Bay of Bengal after remaining weak since May 18, as a cyclonic circulation has formed over the sea.
In its bulletin today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said an upper air cyclonic circulation has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas at a height of 3.1 km above mean sea level.
The weather system is expected to aid the further advance of the southwest monsoon over some more parts of the southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, as well as the eastcentral Bay of Bengal, during the next two to three days.
Meteorologists said the monsoon flow, which had slowed down and failed to progress further after May 18, is now likely to become active again. The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal region is expected to create favourable conditions for the monsoon winds to advance further.
