Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels to the state, Odia youth Anshuman Kamila has topped the Indian Economic Service (IES) Examination 2019-20 conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Son of former Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) of Odisha Santosh Kumar Kamila and Odia singer Mitali Chinara, Anshuman studied Economics (Hons) at St Stephen's College in New Delhi and MPhil at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Currently, he is working with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) New Delhi as Manager.

Anshuman's mother is also serving as the HoD of Analytical and Applied Economics at Utkal University while his father is working as a member (P), Postal Directorate in New Delhi.

“My mother is a Professor in Economics whereas father works as a civil servant. I understand how to utilise the basic principles of Economics for the development of people. From the childhood I knew whatever you do in life you must think of society’s development and upliftment of people. I was working in this direction and am extremely happy with the success. Also, I thank my family and friends for their support,” said Anshuman.

Describing his mantra for success, Anshuman said, “Economics syllabus in Odisha has been revised in a big scale. That’s why difference between the standards of Economics syllabus in Odisha and the best syllabus available in the country are not much. Indian Economics Service aspirants must do some a bit of hard work every day and it is immaterial for how long they study. Today only one Odia has been ranked in the merit list. I will pray before Lord Jagannath wishing more Odias get top ranks in the IES list in coming days.”

A total of 32 candidates have been selected for appointment to the posts to be filled under IES  with Anshuman securing the top position. The written IES examination was held from June 28 to June 30, 2019 followed by interviews or personality test in December, 2019 and January, 2020. Marks of the candidates will be made available on official website of the UPSC- www.upsc.gov.in- within 15 days from the date of publication of the result, said a notification issued by the  commission.
