Bhubaneswar: Amidst ongoing projects to construct as many as community toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission, a scholar from Philadelphia in city of Pennsylvania visited here to study reasons behind smelly toilets.

A study will be carried out by woman researcher Pamela Dalton finding the factors behind toilet odors and will come up with solution for elimination of nasty smells in the toilets, being constructed in the city, few days after use.

Why community toilets stink for which people are found away from using them? What could be the solutions to the issue? These are the questions Pamela will resolve in the project.

According to Pamela, people usually express disinterest to use public toilets because of the odor for which there is high possibility to prefer open defecation.

The Pennsylvanian researcher in her study will present a detailed report suggesting the necessities for appropriate maintenance of the public or community toilets.

There are 26 public toilets in the city. A ward sanitation committee has been formed for maintenance of the toilets.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed an MoU with four ward sanitation committees here on Tuesday. Apart from maintenance, the committees have been assigned for fee collection from the public toilets.
