Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari will be the next Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Adhikari was elected as the leader of BJP legislature party in Bengal today.
He will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Bengal at 11 am tomorrow.
Adhikari has defeated TMC supremo and incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from Bhabanipur Assembly seat in the recently concluded polls.
The BJP leader has also secured victory in his traditional Nandigram seat. Adhikari had earlier served as the Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly.
The BJP had earlier announced Home Minister Amit Shah as the observer for the election of the leader of BJP legislature party in West Bengal. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was made the co-observer for the legislature party meeting.
The BJP has won 207 seats of the total 294 in the West Bengal Assembly in the recently concluded polls in the neighbouring state.
The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) managed to get 80 seats in the Assembly polls.
For the first time, the BJP has secured majority in the Assembly polls in West Bengal. The party is all set to form its maiden government in the state.
