New Delhi: The Supreme Court while hearing the Shree Jagannath Temple reforms case today asked the Odisha Government to protect temples and places of worship at mutts near the temple, said Odisha Advocate General Ashok Parija.

"The Supreme Court didn't issue any direction today. The apex court asked us to take into confidence all stakeholders and hold discussions with religious leaders. It also asked us to protect temples and places of worship on mutt premises near the temple," the Advocate General said.

"We apprised the Supreme Court regarding provision of protection of temples in the Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R) policy of the Odisha Government," he said, adding that a status report will be submitted to the court before the next hearing which has been posted to October 22.

Worth mentioning, structures within 75 meters of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri town are being razed for creation of a heritage corridor around the temple.
