Balasore: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly strangled his mother to death at Talapada village under Simulia police limits in Odisha's Balasore district on Tuesday night after he was not served fish curry in dinner.

The deceased was identified as Basanti Mohanty.

As per reports, accused Arun Mohanty, Basanti's elder son, committed the heinous act under the influence of alcohol following a heated argument over dinner.

Arun’s wife, Kavita Mohanty, said, “Arun, when intoxicated, frequently physically abused the family members, including me, our children, and his mother.”

She further narrated, “On Tuesday night, Arun returned home inebriated. He asked for fish curry, but when his mother informed him that no non-vegetarian food was prepared, he became violent and strangled her.”

Though Basanti was rescued and rushed to a hospital by the locals, she was declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.

Following the incident, the police apprehended Arun after his wife lodged a formal complaint at the Simulia police station.
