Rayagada: In a tragic incident, a couple died and their son sustained injuries after a wall collapsed due to heavy rain in the district this morning.

The deceased persons were identified as Madhab Laya (60) and his wife Jashoda Laya (55) of Shulipada village under Kalyansinghpur police limits in Rayagada district.

The injured son was rushed to Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre for treatment.

According to reports, the wall suddenly collapsed due to heavy rain while Mabdhab, his wife and young son were sleeping in their cottage at night.

While Madhab died on the spot, his wife was rushed to Kalyansinghpur hospital where the doctors declared her dead, said district emergency officer Babita Rani Dalabehera.

The heavy rain southern districts of Odisha caused by a well-marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal triggered flood-like situation.

The rain water is flowing on the roads disconnecting many parts of areas from the district headquarters.
