Baripada (Mayurbhanj): A shocking incident has come to light in Mayurbhanj district, where a seven-month-old baby boy was rescued after his father allegedly attempted to sell him for ₹30,000.

According to reports, the accused, identified as Ratan Kisku of Gholmuhan village under Morada police limits, was frequently intoxicated and allegedly subjected his wife and infant son to physical abuse. Local officials, including CDPO staff, supervisors, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, had earlier counselled him over his behaviour.

Today, Ratan reportedly took his infant son to Chandabila village under Baripada Sadar police limits. Concealing his identity, he introduced himself as Arjun Kisku there. Local residents grew suspicious, sensing something was amiss.

The villagers detained Ratan and questioned him. During the interrogation, he allegedly confessed he had come to sell his baby boy for ₹30,000.

While local women kept him restrained, Ratan managed to escape from their custody.

After being informed, Baripada Sadar police reached to the spot and safely rescued the infant. Officials from the Women and Child Development Department also reached the scene and ensured a medical examination of the baby.

As per latest reports, the child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further care and protection.

Police have launched a search to trace and apprehend the accused father.
