Koraput: The long-standing border dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh has intensified further with Andhra police setting up a temporary checkpost in the disputed Kotia region of Koraput district.
According to reports, Andhra Pradesh police on Saturday established a temporary checkpost at Uparasembi village under Kotia panchayat in Pottangi block of Koraput district and deployed police personnel there.
The Andhra administration has reportedly included Uparasembi village under Parvathipuram Manyam district. Acting on instructions from Andhra authorities, Salur police reached the village, held discussions with locals and later erected a temporary tent and checkpost bearing Andhra Police signage.
On getting information about the development, Odisha officials, including Sub-Collector Premlal Hial, Pottangi BDO Ramakrishna Nayak and Tahsildar Devendra Bahadur Singh Dharua, visited the village to assess the situation.
This incident comes days after Andhra authorities allegedly distributed solar panels in Uparasembi and Talasembi villages on Wednesday. The Pottangi block administration later seized the solar panels from villagers and handed them over to the Kotia police.
Two days later, on Friday, an Andhra Pradesh mobile healthcare ambulance reportedly entered the Kotia panchayat headquarters area and organised a health camp. Odisha police and the Pottangi administration intervened, shut down the camp and sent back the medical team.
Within 24 hours of that incident, Salur police established the checkpost at Uparasembi village, located barely five kilometres from Kotia police station.
The back-to-back developments have further complicated the already sensitive Kotia border dispute, with both Odisha and Andhra Pradesh continuing to assert administrative control over the region.
