Angul: In view of the ongoing severe heatwave conditions, the Angul district administration today extended the summer vacation for schools. The decision was announced by the District Education Officer, citing concerns over students’ health and safety.
As per the latest directive, government and private schools in the district will now reopen on June 22, 2026.
Officials said the move has been taken as a precautionary measure to protect students from extreme weather conditions, as temperatures continue to remain significantly high in the region.
The district administration, in coordination with the education department, urged parents to take special care of their children during the intense heat. They advised ensuring proper hydration and avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun.
The extension comes amid persistent heatwave conditions affecting several parts of the state, disrupting normal life and prompting authorities to prioritise public safety.
Earlier, the Subarnapur district administration announced the closure of Anganwadi centres, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions until June 20.
However, examinations scheduled during this period will be conducted as planned. Authorities directed exams be held during morning hours to minimise students’ exposure to excessive heat.
