Man beaten to death on Bhubaneswar outskirts; 2nd such incident in 2 days

Bhubaneswar: A person was allegedly beaten to death in Balipatna area on the outskirts of the Odisha capital on Friday.

The incident took place at Bengabati village under Balipatna police limits and it comes a day after a youth was killed in a mob violence in Balianta area near the capital city.

According to police, two friends entered into an argument over some issues at Bengabati village. Soon, one of them attacked the other with an iron rod.

The victim sustained grievous injuries on his head and was immediately rushed to capital hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while being treated, said the police.

The Balipatna police have arrested the accused and launched a probe into the incident. However, the identities of the deceased person as well as the accused are yet to be known.  

It is worth mentioning here that a youth was beaten to death by some people after he allegedly tried to sexually assault two women at Balianta, located near the capital city, on Thursday.  

The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Swain of Adaspur area. Swain was serving as a constable at Government Railway Police (GRP).

The police have so far arrested five persons in connection with the incident.
