Bhubaneswar: The administration in Odisha’s Keonjhar district has extended a helping hand to Jitu Munda, a tribal man who had carried his sister’s skeletal remains to a bank to withdraw money from her account.

The administration took immediate steps to include Munda in a pension scheme of the state government. Besides, the administration made the necessary arrangement for electricity connection to the tribal man’s house.

Moreover, the authorities issued a ration card to Munda for availing PDS goods.

Munda, a resident of Dianali village in Keonjhar, exhumed his deceased sister’s skeletal remains and carried them to a bank for withdrawing money from her account on April 27.

The tribal man carried the skeletal remains to the bank after the officials asked him to produce his sister’s death certificate and other required documents for withdrawal of the money.

The incident triggered a massive outrage across the state. The Opposition parties also targeted the state government and sought accountability in this regard.

The shocking incident also grabbed the attention of national and international media.

Taking the issue seriously, the administration swung into action and asked the bank to provide the money to Munda.

Expressing concern over the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also ordered a Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) inquiry in this regard.
