Rourkela: A contractual worker lost his life in an accident at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Prakash Swain, a resident of the Bali Jodi area. He was working at the Calcining Plant-2 (CP-2) unit of RSP.

According to information, the incident took place at around 4:20 pm while Swain was cleaning the roof sheets in the CP-2 section. He reportedly slipped and fell from a height of nearly 20 feet. He was immediately rushed to the in-house medical centre and later shifted to the Ispat General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

RSP authorities said that Swain was found unconscious at the site and was promptly taken for medical attention. As there were no eyewitnesses to the incident, the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.

A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident. Based on preliminary findings, two officials have been suspended in connection with the case.

Expressing grief over the incident, RSP’s Director-in-Charge Alok Verma assured that all possible assistance would be provided to the bereaved family.
