Berhampur: An elderly woman of Chhadeyapada village in Beguniapada block of Odisha's Ganjam district allegedly died by suicide after not receiving pension from the government for the last three months.

The deceased has been identified as Savitri Dora, a senior citizen who was reportedly dependent on the pension amount for her daily expenses. Family members alleged that the prolonged delay in receiving the pension had pushed her into severe financial hardship and mental distress.

According to the family, Savitri had been repeatedly expressing concern over the non-payment of her pension. Unable to meet her basic needs, she was reportedly under constant stress. Distressed by the situation, she consumed pesticide to end her life, they alleged.

Locals have demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. While the family has linked the incident to the delay in pension payments, villagers have said that authorities should ascertain whether there were any other factors involved.
