Jajpur: Miscreants allegedly attacked a vehicle carrying former Odisha MLA Pranab Balabantaray at Aruha village in Dharmasala tehsil in Odisha's Jajpur district.

The incident occurred while the former Dharmasala legislator along with his supporters was travelling in his SUV to attend a religious ceremony dedicated to Maa Hingula.

According to initial reports, the goons by direction of Independent MLA Himanshu Sahoo attacked the vehicle of the BJD leader with sticks and fatal weapons.

The incident sparked tension among locals as well as the former MLA's supporters.

On receiving information, Jenapur police station IIC reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Following the incident, Balabantaray returned to his residence after having darshan of deity at Yajna place as per the schedule.

When contacted Balabantaray, he confirmed about the incident and alleged the stone mafia from Dankari area were involved in the attack.

Pranab Kumar Balabantaray, currently in-charge of Youth and Student Wings of the BJD, is the son of BJD leader late Kalpataru Das. He was elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly twice from Dharmasala Assembly Constituency in 2014 and 2019 elections.
