Bhubaneswar: Two persons, including a former Sarpanch, were arrested in connection with an attack on a police team in Odisha’s Nuapada district yesterday.

The arrested have been identified as Vrindaban Mahanand and Mahendra Jagat of Dumerbahal village under Komna police limits in Nuapada. Mahanand is a former Sarpanch of Konabira gram panchayat, reports said.

As per reports, a team of Komna police, led by Sub-Inspectors (SIs) Minati Badnayak and Rajanikant Dep, visited Dumerbahal on Friday to investigate a case.

The former Sarpanch, his son Pasa Mahanand and villager Mahendra Jagat allegedly attacked the police team following a brief argument over some issues. Two police personnel sustained injuries in the attack, reports said.

The cops registered a case in this regard and launched a probe as per the direction of Nuapada SP.

“We have arrested two persons in connection with the incident and produced them in a local court. However, the third accused has absconded. We have formed four teams to nab him,” said Nuapada Additional SP Ranjit Nayak.
