Jharsuguda: In a deeply unsettling incident that has sent shockwaves across Jharsuguda district, a local court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his minor foster daughter.

The harrowing ordeal came to light on July 29, 2024, when the minor victim finally gathered the courage to shatter her silence and lodged a written complaint against her foster father at the Jharsuguda Police Station.

Details of the abuse and threats

According to the police report, the convict ruthlessly exploited his position of trust. He targeted the young girl inside their residence over a prolonged period, specifically orchestrating the assaults whenever other family members were away. To ensure her silence, the perpetrator weaponized fear, repeatedly threatening to murder the victim, her mother, and her younger sister if she ever spoke out.

Trapped in a cycle of trauma and terror, the minor endured the abuse in silence for months before bravely stepping forward to seek police protection.

Recognizing the gravity of the heinous crime, the Jharsuguda Police launched an immediate and thorough investigation. Demonstrating commendable efficiency, the investigative team wrapped up the entire probe and submitted a comprehensive chargesheet to the court in a mere 58 days.

Upon reviewing the airtight evidence and testimonies, the Special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Court found the accused guilty. The court sentenced the monster masquerading as a protector to life imprisonment. 
Furthermore, the court directed that a compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh be awarded to the survivor to assist in her rehabilitation and recovery.
