Bhubaneswar: The state government will widen the Bhawanipatna-Khariar road into four-lane from the existing two-lane to boost communication between Kalahandi and Nuapada districts of Odisha.
This was revealed by Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan today.
“The state government has decided to widen the Bhawanipatna-Khariar road to fulfill the long-standing demand of the locals. Widening of the road will benefit all sections of the society including farmers and traders,” said Harichandan.
As part of the road widening project, five major bridges and 15 small bridges will be constructed. Besides, the existing bridge over Tel river will be renovated. The state government will spend around Rs 640 crore for widening of the 70-km road. In addition to this, around Rs 91 crore would be spent for construction of the bridges, added the Minister.
“Widening of Bhawanipatna-Khariar road will usher in new opportunities for the people of Kalahandi and Nuapada. There will be smooth communication between the two districts. The farmers and traders of the region will not face any problem to access the market,” stated Harichandan.
The farmers as well as the local producers can easily transport their products to the market. The commuters can also reach their destinations quickly. This will ultimately boost economic activities and job creation in the region, he added.
