Bhubaneswar: The police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket in Odisha’s Berhampur city and arrested a 21-year-old youth in this connection.

The accused has been identified as Subham Pradhan of Nehru Nagar under Gosani Nuagaon police limits in Berhampur.

According to police, Pradhan was running the IPL betting racket in Berhampur and luring local youths on the promise of high returns.

He was reportedly operating through online gaming website ag.noor333.com. On a tip-off, the officials of Baidyanathpur police station in Berhampur caught Pradhan from near Khodasingh overbridge.

During investigation, the cops came to know that as many as 70 people were playing the online gaming under Pradhan’s account. The police have seized Rs 20.23 lakh in this connection.

A case has been registered against Pradhan under Sections 61(2), 297, 318(4) and 3(5) of the BNS; Sections 4 and 5 of the PCMCS (Banning) Act-1978; Section 4 of Public Gambling Act-1867 and Section 67(C)(D) of IT Act, said the police.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Pradhan has duped many people after luring them to bet money in the online gaming, they added.
