Nabarangpur: A man arrested in connection with a minor’s abduction case was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside Dabugaon police station in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district on Wednesday, with police suspecting suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Purna Kalar, a resident of Anchala village under Medana panchayat. He had been arrested by Dabugaon police a few days ago for allegedly abducting a minor girl from the locality.

According to police sources, the accused was scheduled to be produced before a court today. However, he was found hanging inside the toilet of the police station.

Preliminary reports suggest that Kalar used a piece of cloth, reportedly torn from a sheet, to hang himself from the ventilation structure of the toilet.

Police officials said the family members of the deceased have been informed about the incident. The body has been kept at the mortuary of the Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem.

An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the custodial death.
