Mayurbhanj: Police rescued an 80-year-old woman who was allegedly abandoned in a forest near her village in the Bangiriposi block of Mayurbhanj district.

The elderly woman, identified as Rukmani Patra, is a resident of Kandolia village under Bhuasuni panchayat. She had been living with her son, Golak Chandra Patra.

According to reports, her grandson, Tapan Kumar Patra, allegedly left her in a nearby forest. He was reportedly distressed over caring for the elderly woman, who frequently required assistance due to age-related health issues.

After learning about the incident, former block chairman Subodh Marandi alerted the police. Acting swiftly, a police team reached the forest and successfully rescued the woman.

She has since been shifted to an old-age home for proper care and safety.

Police have registered a case against the accused grandson, and further investigation is underway.
