Morning classes in schools in these Odisha districts amid heatwave forecast for next three days

Bhubaneswar: In view of a heatwave forecast by the Regional Meteorological Centre over the next three days, the Khordha, Cuttack and Kendrapara district administrations on Thursday announced morning classes for all schools in the districts, including private institutions.

As per the order, classes will be conducted from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. The directive will remain in force from June 19 to June 25.

Schools have also been instructed to ensure adequate arrangements for drinking water and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) for students.

In neighbouring Puri district, authorities have extended the summer vacation for students from Shishu Vatika to Class XII until June 22.

Hot and humid conditions to continue

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre has predicted that hot and humid conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated places in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.

The centre has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts. An orange warning has been issued for these areas.

Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at one or two places in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh districts. A yellow warning has been issued for these regions.
