Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday approved the repeal of 358 number of Acts enacted by the State Legislature.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Chief Secretary Anu Garg said the decision was based on recommendations of the Odisha State Law Commission, which found these Acts to be either redundant or obsolete.

She noted repealing these laws would help ease the burden on the statute book and eliminate confusion among the public.

The 358 number of Acts, identified by the Law Department, were enacted between 1974 and 2025.

In another key decision, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Odisha District and Civil Courts’ Non-Judicial Staff Services (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2008. The amendment will create promotional avenues for Group-D employees, enabling them to be elevated to the posts of junior clerks.

The Cabinet also gave its nod to a proposal by the Law Department for framing comprehensive rules governing the appointment and service conditions of Court Managers, in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court.

Altogether, the Cabinet approved 10 proposals from seven departments during the meeting.
