Bhubaneswar: The CBI sleuths today arrested the Superintendent, CGST, in Odisha’s Balasore on charges of taking Rs 50,000 as bribe from the owner of a firm.
The accused has been identified as Omm Prakash Nayak, reports said.
Nayak had allegedly sought Rs 50,000 as bribe from the firm owner for releasing Rs 16 lakh as GST refund.
The firm owner had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Subsequently, a trap was laid and the CGST Superintendent was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
The CBI registered a case in this regard and arrested the accused.
Soon after Nayak’s arrest, the CBI sleuths raided his house and office and some other places as part of their investigation into the bribery case.
As many as 27 CBI sleuths reportedly carried out simultaneous searches at Nayak’s house and office.
The accused CGST official will be brought to the CBI regional office in the capital city here for questioning, reports added.
