Bhubaneswar: At least seven districts in Odisha have extended the summer vacation for schools in view of the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions.

The authorities in Ganjam, Sundargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Balangir and Sambalpur have extended the summer vacation due to the adverse weather conditions. 

Earlier, the state government had announced that the schools across Odisha will reopen on June 18 after the summer vacation, that began on April 27.

The Ganjam Collector and District Magistrate extended the summer vacation till June 20 by issuing an office order today.

“The MeT Department has predicted hot and humid weather conditions as well as thunderstorms for Ganjam district during the next few days. In the interest of public safety and to avert any health casualties, all government, government-aided and private schools up to Class-XII in Ganjam will remain closed till June 20,” said the office order issued by the Ganjam Collector.

The administration in Sundargarh has extended the summer vacation for schools up to Class-XII till June 21.

It is worth mentioning here that the authorities in Sonepur and Angul have also extended the summer vacation for schools due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

The summer vacation in Sonepur has been extended till June 20 while schools in Angul district will remain closed till June 22.

Similarly, the Collectors of Boudh and Balangir have extended the summer vacation for educational institutions, including Anganwadi Centres, schools and colleges, till June 20.

The administration in Sambalpur district has extended the summer vacation till June 20 due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions as well as for the Sitalsasthi festival, reports said.  

The authorities in Nuapada district have asked the schools to hold morning classes till June 20 due to the prevailing hot and humid conditions.

The schools have been asked to hold classes from 6.30 am to 11.30 am till June 20. The Nuapada Collector today issued an order in this regard.

The administration, meanwhile, revealed that schools across Khurda district, including the capital city, will reopen on June 18 (Thursday). The classes will be held from 10 am to 4 pm, said Khurda District Education Officer (DEO) Sonamika Ray.
