Bhubaneswar: The police have busted an Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket in Odisha’s Puri district and arrested four persons in this connection.
The accused have been identified as Prasanna Prusti and Bishwanath Lenka of Masani Chandi Square under Baseli Sahi police limits and B. Nageswar Sahu of Badasankha under Kumbharpara police limits in Puri city, and Ramakanta Sahu of Birapratappur under Chandanpur police limits.
The cops have seized Rs 25.35 lakh from the accused persons and frozen Rs 31.81 lakh in 10 bank accounts linked to the betting racket. Six mobiles phones were also seized from the accused persons, the police said on Wednesday.
According to the cops, Prusti is the mastermind of the IPL betting racket. The racket was operating through Sky Exchange app and the accused were coordinating the operations with the help of digital platforms, police said.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the financial transactions linked to the IPL betting racket run into crores of rupees. Efforts are underway to arrest the other members of the racket, said Puri SP Prateek Singh.
