Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), according to the state government.

The Housing and Urban Development Department on Friday said Odisha has consistently maintained the number one position in India in house completion performance from March 2025 to March 2026 under the flagship urban housing scheme.

The achievement comes under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with the government highlighting its commitment towards the vision of “Housing for All”.

Over 24,000 houses sanctioned under urban housing scheme

Officials said a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha since the scheme’s launch in September 2024. Of these, 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged.

According to official figures, foundation work has begun for 3,134 houses, while 2,008 houses had been completed as of May 5, 2026. The remaining houses are currently at different stages of construction.

The state government attributed the progress to coordinated efforts by the Housing and Urban Development Department, Urban Local Bodies, and field-level implementing agencies.

State Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed officials to further accelerate construction activities and ensure that pending targets under PMAY-U 2.0 are completed ahead of schedule.

The minister stressed the need for timely execution, quality construction, and speedy delivery of housing benefits to eligible urban poor families across the state.

The government said Odisha’s performance under PMAY-U 2.0 reflects its focus on inclusive urban development and improving access to dignified housing for economically weaker sections.
