Bhubaneswar: A mentally-challenged woman was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in Odisha’s Sundargarh district three days ago.

The police today arrested the accused and produced him in a local court.

The incident took place at Chowkidarpara village under Kutra police limits in Sundargarh.

As per reports, the mentally challenged woman, identified as Sukanti Chhura (45), was found dead near her house on Friday.

The woman’s relatives performed her last rites without suspecting any criminal angle in the incident.

However, the deceased woman’s relatives suspected foul play after they found bloodstains inside the house of their neighbour Dipak Chhura.

They later informed the incident to Kutra police. The police soon detained Dipak and questioned him in connection with mentally-challenged woman’s death.

During interrogation, Dipak confessed that he had killed Sukanti after sexually assaulting her in his house on Friday. The police arrested the accused after registering a case in this regard.
