Bhubaneswar: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by a relative in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

The incident took place in Baisinga area of Mayurbhanj. The police have arrested the accused and launched a probe into the incident.

As per reports, the accused, aged around 28, is a distant relative of the minor girl. The minor girl used to visit the accused’s home and assist his ailing mother in household chores.

The accused allegedly raped the minor girl in his house around six months ago and threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone.

However, the incident came to the light after the victim was found pregnant during a medical examination recently. Later, she revealed details about the sexual assault to her family members.

The victim’s family members lodged a complaint in this regard with Baisinga police. The cops registered a case under various Sections of the BNS and POCSO Act and arrested the accused, reports said.

“We have arrested the accused after registering a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s family. The accused will be produced in a POCSO court at Baripada tomorrow after medical examination,” said Baisinga police IIC Barini Das.
