Bhubaneswar: A pick-up van driver was allegedly beaten to death in a road rage incident in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Munda (36) of Gultha village under Bhasma police limits in Sundargarh.
The pick-up van reportedly hit the driver of a truck while the latter was crossing the road after parking his vehicle near Suruda Square in the afternoon.
The truck driver, identified as Mukesh Yadav of Bihar, sustained injuries on his legs. Rajesh, who was driving the pick-up van, stopped the vehicle and attended to the injured truck driver, reports said.
Soon, a group of around 20 truck drivers, who were in the vicinity, reportedly gathered at the spot and attacked Rajesh with an iron rod. He sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
A few drivers later rushed him to the Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.
On being informed, the police reached the DHH and seized the body before sending it for postmortem.
The cops registered a case in this regard on the basis of an FIR lodged by one Samarendra Parida, a local. They have also arrested three accused, identified as Manish Kumar, Bikash Kumar and Amrit Lal, and launched a probe into the incident.
