Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has directed several district administrations to expedite the allocation of government land for the installation of 707 new 4G mobile towers under the Centre-funded 4G Saturation Project aimed at improving digital connectivity in remote regions.
In a letter dated June 17, 2026, Additional Chief Secretary of the Electronics and Information Technology Department, Vishal Kumar Dev, wrote to collectors of 24 districts, urging them to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the acquisition of government land required for the project.
According to the letter, the Ministry of Communications, Government of India, has identified 707 new locations in Odisha for the installation of mobile towers under the extended 4G Saturation Project funded by the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The state government has requested district collectors to facilitate the advance possession of approximately 2,000 square feet of government land at each identified site. The land will be allotted in favour of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to enable the commencement of tower installation work.
Several districts have already made progress in the project, as NOCs have been issued for 294 sites.
Highlighting the importance of timely completion, the Additional Chief Secretary stressed that the project is crucial for enhancing digital connectivity in remote areas of Odisha. He urged collectors to instruct field-level officials to make the required land available and ensure the early completion of tower construction works.
The districts covered under the directive are Angul, Balangir, Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Boudh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.
