Bhubaneswar: Day temperatures across several districts of Odisha eased slightly on Wednesday, though 16 locations in the state still recorded maximum temperatures of 40°C or above.
Balangir emerged as the hottest place at 43.2°C, followed by Boudh at 42.6°C. According to data from the Regional Meteorological Centre, Angul and Titlagarh recorded 42.5°C each, along with Talcher at 42.5°C. Jharsuguda registered 42.4°C, while Sonepur recorded 42.2°C.
Bhawanipatna, Nuapada and Sundargarh recorded 42°C each. Rourkela reported 41.2°C, Dhenkanal 41°C, and Nayagarh 40.8°C. Malkangiri, Sambalpur and Bargarh recorded 40.6°C each.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded relatively lower temperatures at 38.7°C and 38°C, respectively.
Yesterday, Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the State with day temperature at 45.3°C
The Meteorological Centre has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph in the afternoon or evening at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. An orange warning has been issued for these areas.
Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri and Sundargarh districts.
Hot and humid conditions are also likely to prevail at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Boudh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Angul, Sonepur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts. A yellow warning has been issued for these regions.
The latest bulletin further forecasts thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph across several districts of the state till May 6.
