Nayagarh: Unidentified robbers allegedly decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over ₹40 lakh from the famous Vaishno Devi temple in Odisha’s Nayagarh district. The incident took place on Thursday night during a severe storm, which the miscreants allegedly used to their advantage.

According to reports, heavy rain and strong winds disrupted power supply in the area, while fallen tree branches blocked roads. Taking advantage of the chaos, a well-prepared group of robbers broke into the temple premises and looted valuables.

The stolen items include three gold crowns, three gold necklaces, a silver canopy, a silver lamp, and a sword. The total value of the stolen articles is estimated to exceed ₹40 lakh.

The incident has raised serious concerns, especially as security personnel and temple staff were reportedly present at the time. Suspicions are also being raised about possible involvement of insiders, including temple staff.

On Friday morning, police officials, along with a forensic team and sniffer dogs, reached the spot and launched an investigation.
