Sambalpur: Amid continuing heatwave conditions across the State, a 44 year-old man died of suspected sunstroke in Odisha's Sambalpur district today. The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Sahu (44), a labourer from Jhankarpali (Rasiapali) under Sambalpur Sadar police limits.His death is being suspected as the district’s first heatstroke-related fatality this season.
According to reports, Biswajit was engaged in concrete work at a construction site on Saturday morning when he suddenly complained of uneasiness and collapsed between 9 am and 10 am. Fellow workers and locals immediately rushed to his aid and rescued him from the spot. He was first taken to his residence, where his condition reportedly remained critical. As his health deteriorated, family members quickly shifted him to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. However, after examination, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, family members alleged that the intense heatwave conditions led to his death. However, officials said the exact cause of death would be confirmed only after the post-mortem examination.
Authorities issue advisory as heat spell continues
The hospital authorities have informed the police regarding the incident. As Odisha continues to grapple with severe summer conditions, several western and interior districts remain under the grip of an intense heatwave, with temperatures likely to soar further in the coming days. Authorities have advised people to avoid venturing outdoors during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions as the scorching weather persists across the state.
