Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced free bus services for candidates appearing in the NEET (UG) 2026 examination scheduled to be held on June 21, in a move aimed at ensuring hassle-free travel to examination centres across the State.
The initiative, taken as per the decision of the Chief Minister and under the directions of the Commerce and Transport Minister, will be jointly implemented by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) and the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT).
According to a press release issued by the State Transport Authority (STA), special transportation arrangements have been made to ferry candidates from major railway stations and bus stands directly to their respective examination centres. The service will be operated through OSRTC buses, Mukhyamantri Bus Seva (MBS) and AMA Bus services.
Candidates appearing at 134 examination centres across Odisha can avail themselves of the free facility by producing a valid NEET (UG) 2026 admit card while travelling on government-operated buses and buses deployed by various educational institutions for the purpose.
The transport service will function in two phases. The first phase will facilitate the movement of candidates to their examination centres before the commencement of the test, while the second phase will ensure their return journey after the examination. Officials said the free transport service will continue until all candidates reach their destinations safely.
To ensure smooth implementation and coordination at the district level, the Transport Commissioner held a review meeting with all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs). The meeting focused on operational planning, monitoring mechanisms and coordination among various agencies involved in the programme.
Keeping in view the prevailing summer conditions, the authorities have also arranged for drinking water and other essential amenities for the convenience of the candidates. The Commerce and Transport Department has requested all District Collectors to provide necessary support and coordination for the successful execution of the initiative.
Additionally, all RTOs have been directed to widely publicise the free transportation facility through social media and other communication channels, besides disseminating helpline numbers to enable candidates to receive timely information and assistance.
