Bhubaneswar/Balangir: Following the road mishap in Titlagarh in which three people were killed and two others injured, the Transport Department on Tuesday announced strict measures against the illegal use of goods vehicles for passenger transport.

Notably, the vehicle involved in the accident was a goods carrier and reportedly did not have valid fitness or insurance documents.

The Additional Transport Commissioner (Road Safety) said stringent action will be taken against violators. He added if any goods vehicle is found carrying passengers, its registration will be cancelled.

To enforce the directive, special squads have been formed to conduct inspections. Authorities said intensified checking drives will begin from Wednesday, with a focus on preventing such violations and improving road safety.

Officials have urged vehicle owners to strictly adhere to transport regulations to avoid legal action and ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, the two injured in the Titlagarh accident have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where their condition is reported to be critical.
