Bhubaneswar: In an alleged case of discrimination against girl child in Odisha’s Cuttack district, a woman and her husband were thrashed by their family members after she delivered twin daughters a few days ago.

The incident took place at Pashulunda village of Srikrushnapur panchayat under Mahanga block of Cuttack.

As per reports, Parbati Jena, the wife of Chandra Sekhar Jena of Pashulunda, gave birth to her twin daughters around a month ago.

Soon after the birth of her twin daughters, Parbati was subjected to mental as well as physical torture by her in-laws including her father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Parbati’s in-laws reportedly expressed their displeasure over the birth of her twin daughters. They allegedly assaulted her following an argument over the issue a few days ago. The woman’s in-laws also did not spare her husband when he tried to intervene. The young couple was allegedly thrashed in full public view. A video of the incident later went viral on social media.

The Mahanga police have registered a case and launched a probe into the incident on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim.
