Bhubaneswar: A youth allegedly killed his father and stepmother over a domestic discord in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district today.
The incident took place at Tertang village of Alabhar panchayat under Balikuda police limits.
The deceased has been identified as Satyanand Parida (65) and his second wife Charulata Parida (50) of the village.
As per reports, accused Dillip Parida, the son of Satyanand’s first wife, used to quarrel with his father and stepmother over issues related to the ownership of their landed properties.
The accused allegedly killed Satyanand and Charulata by slitting their throats with a sharp weapon following a brief argument in the afternoon.
On being informed, the police reached the spot and seized the bodies before sending them for postmortem. The cops also arrested the accused and launched a probe into the incident.
According to villagers, Satyanand had opted for second marriage following the death of his first wife (accused Dillip’s mother) some years ago.
“Dillip was unhappy over his father’s second marriage. He used to plead with his father to record their ancestral properties in his name. However, Satyanand did not pay any heed to Dillip’s request,” said a villager.
Some days ago, Satyanand had reportedly sold a piece of land and provided the money to the younger sister of Charulata. This further infuriated Dillip, said Balikuda police in-charge Kabuli Barik.
“Dillip, who was working in a rice mill at Kakatpur in Puri district, returned home on Saturday for celebration of the three-day Raja festival. Today, he attacked his father and stepmother with a sharp weapon. The couple died on the spot. We have arrested the accused and seized the weapon used in the crime,” added Barik.
