Khordha: A first-year PhD student of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a hostel room in Jatni area of Khordha district on Monday.

The deceased student has been identified as Shreya Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, according to police sources.

Fellow students alert authorities after scholar fails to wake up

Reports said Shreya was staying in the institute’s hostel and was found unconscious on her bed. After she did not wake up for a long time, fellow students informed the hostel and institute authorities.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and recovered the body. The deceased student was later shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhubaneswar (AIIMS Bhubaneswar) for post-mortem examination.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining all possible angles to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
