Bhubaneswar: Several districts in Odisha are likely to witness thunderstorms with gusty surface winds till June 24, said the IMD in its weather report on Friday.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in a few districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak and Koraput till June 22.
As per the prediction, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface winds are very likely to occur at some places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabrangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh during the next five days.
This apart, a few places across the state may witness light to moderate rain or thundershower till June 26.
“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati on June 19 and 20,” said the IMD regional centre here while issuing an Orange warning in this regard.
Light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms have occurred at some places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Balasore, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar, Ganjam and Kendrapara during the last 24 hours, added the IMD.
Paradeep in Jagatsinghpur district recorded the highest 60.5 mm rainfall during the period. On the other hand, Boudh recorded the highest maximum temperature of 42.8 Degree Celsius in the state during the last 24 hours, said the MeT Department.
According to the MeT Department, the south-west monsoon will cover some more areas of Odisha, Telangana, Jharkhand and Bihar during the next three to four days.
