Jharsuguda: Tension prevailed at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital on Sunday after family members of two youths who drowned in the Ib River staged a protest, alleging medical negligence.

According to reports, Pankaj Kumar Sahu (21) and Abhiram Sahu (16), both residents under Sadar police limits, had gone to bathe at the Ib River embankment near Budhipadar village. The two youths allegedly slipped into deep water and drowned.

Locals present at the spot rescued the duo from the river and immediately called for an ambulance. However, it is alleged the ambulance took a considerable time to arrive. Family members further claimed even after being brought to the hospital, the victims were not attended to promptly.

Doctors later declared both Pankaj Kumar Sahu and Abhiram Sahu dead.

The bereaved families alleged delays in ambulance services and medical treatment contributed to the deaths. The situation turned tense at the hospital as relatives expressed anger over the alleged negligence.

Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Further investigation is underway.
